Uptown Afternoons

I live in a great part of Waterloo. I love the uptown area - coffee shops, live outdoor music, friends at every turn - this is a great place to be. I went out this afternoon and took my camera with me to capture some of the cool highlights about this place... here are my favourites...

A rooftop garden over a funky shoe store... amazing.

Fire escapes are so intricate and cast bizarre shadows. I would like to live in a palce one day that has its own fire escape. Right now, I dont, so I will enjoy the local ones instead.

Do they really serve this many kinds of draught beer? I can't remember, but great signage!!

An art sculpture at the corner of Dupont and Regina. It was recently vandalized and pulled out of the ground. The art gallery that created it responded to this by giving it an underground concrete block for support. It will take a lot more than a few drunk karaoke singers (this is across the street form Chainsaw, formerly the Silver Spur Karaoke Bar) to pull this out of the ground, thats for sure.

Cool building. Beautiful sky.

It seems there are lots of businesses leaving this area, even though it's in the process of being built up. I have a lot of ideas, just not the money for them. For now, I will dream.

Mints on a bench. Waiting to be eaten. Good luck.

One of the many cafes here. This belongs to the Princess Cinemas, where I've seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Girl With a Pearl Earring, House of Flying Daggers, Slumdog Millionaire. They have ridiculously good paninis.
